PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
